December 3rd & 4th, 2021
We all loved driving around looking at Christmas lights as a kid. Just imagine if we could have done that by boat! This past weekend we made that happen with with our boating “sleigh rides.” It was a great way to kick off the holiday season!
The NC Holiday Flotilla has a “Door to Dock” decorating contest on their traditional Flotilla route from the drawbridge down Motts Channel into Banks Channel and to the Coast Guard Station. The dock decorating contest started in 2020 when the traditional Flotilla was cancelled. Lucky for us, the contest was held again this year in addition to the traditional Flotilla.
This event has quickly become a club favorite. We had a great turn out, with 60 boat club/care members and their guests going out. Each night we had two, hour long time slots for the sleigh rides, and we took out our festively decorated Key West 21′, Hurricane Sundeck 2000, and Nautic Star 230 Blue. Boat club and care members enjoyed getting to mingle with each other on the boats. It is always fun to see our members form friendships!
The weather was perfect both nights for event. The temperature was mild and the winds were calm, which makes for a very enjoyable ride. It was a successful weekend of sleigh rides, and we are already looking forward to next year!
